Workshop Report: “European Slapstick: The Fy og Bi phenomenon” with Mikael Braae (Det Danske Filminstitut), Jannie Dahl Astrup (Det Danske Filminstitut) and Ulrich Rüdel (Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin)
In English
Between 1921 and 1940, the Danish comedy duo Fy og Bi, known in the USA as Ole & Axel, and elsewhere as Pat & Patachon were a major success, appearing in more than 40 films. As early as 1925, production company Palladium began loaning the stars out for international films, including in Austria, Germany, and Britain. The Danish Film Institute’s extensive digitization program for Danish silents, combined with its acquisition of the Palladium catalogue, has made their domestic films widely available.
