Join us on a discovery tour through Berlin, the city of film, and experience the capital from a new perspective! From Potsdamer Platz and Checkpoint Charlie to the doors of our new location at E-Werk – we offer both public tours and individually bookable group tours.

  The city walk takes place in German.
  Berlin’s Mitte is a walkable attraction. From the pleasure palaces of the Weimar era to the techno temples after the fall of the Wall: history was made here, and this is still where people from all walks of life come together to enjoy the vibrant nightlife. Our walk takes you along the district border and the former Berlin Wall, from Potsdamer Platz via Checkpoint Charlie to the gates of the future location of the Cinematheque, the E-Werk. Follow in the footsteps of Emil and the Detectives or James Bond, and discover the perfect filming locations for gangster and spy series like ‘4 Blocks’ and ‘Berlin Station’.

  “Who is supposed to change the world?” – “Well, those who don’t like it.”
  ‘Kuhle Wampe’, the most significant proletarian film of the Weimar Republic, ends with a powerful appeal. The film portrays the struggles of a working-class family in Berlin: unemployment, discontinued social benefits, eviction, and an unplanned pregnancy. Young Anni finds her way into the communist movement. The film set stylistic benchmarks with its use of Brechtian alienation effects, striking montage, and Hanns Eisler’s music. The ‘Solidarity Song’ became a classic of the labor movement.

From the amusement halls of the Weimar period to its post-Wall techno temples, history was made here and a wide variety of people still meet to enjoy its lively nightlife. Our walk takes you along the district border and former Berlin Wall from Potsdamer Platz via Checkpoint Charlie to the gates of E-Werk, the Kinemathek’s new location. You will follow in the footsteps of Emil and the Detectives and James Bond, discovering perfect locations for gangster and spy series.

  Hold up your smartphone camera – that always works. But how do you make an animated film? Learn with us!
  Every month, we host the “Trickfilm-Samstag (Animation Saturday)” and invite you to make films (in German): Children between the ages of 8 and 12 craft and shoot in the animation studio of the Kinemathek. And at the end, they tell a story with their own little film.
  A workshop in collaboration with Jugend im Museum e. V.
