People on Sunday

GER 1930, directed by Robert Siodmak and Billy Wilder, 74 min, rated: 0

A summer day in Berlin in the 1920s. Four young people hang out together swimming, listening to music, and flirting until they go their separate ways again. The film does not foreground the story but carefully observed side issues instead. The friends play records and tentatively explore their feelings; there’s a summer lightness in their glances that lends the film an avant-garde charm which has lasted until today.

Featuring: Brigitte Borchert, Christl Ehlers, Erwin Splettstösser
