The Passenger – Welcome to Germany

FRG 1988, directed by Thomas Brasch, 99 min, rated: 12

Hollywood star Tony Curtis plays a successful film director who travels to Germany decades after having emigrated to shoot a documentary about a Nazi film project. He himself was an extra in a film when imprisoned in a concentration camp – and became embroiled in the death of one of his fellow prisoners. Thomas Brasch and screenwriter Jurek Becker have created a film inside a film about guilt and atonement, which combines elements from different film genres with impressive skill.
