Carola, Sabine and Heike are young single mothers in East Berlin in the 1980s. They do cleaning jobs, modelling, secretarial work or singing, juggling their professions with child rearing and the desire for partnership. These women’s experiences are as different in range – from regretting motherhood to happy patchwork family – as their disappointments and desires. The director succeeds in creating a sensitive and unsparing portrait of three women who represent many more like them
