Statement regarding the reorganization of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre
Statement, Berlin, 1 Sep 22
Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek is a leading film heritage institution, based in Berlin, known for its national and international contributions to the preservation and presentation of film.
lt is with tremendous concern that the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek, Berlin has heard of the pending reorganization of the Dovzhenko Centre by the Ukrainian State Film Agency.
The Dovzhenko Centre is a valued fellow member of the Deutsche Kinemathek at FIAF (Federation Internationale des Archives du Film) and, as recently as June 2022, the Dovzhenko Centre has been an important contributor to our film programme Perspectives of Ukrainian Cinema, which was held across three major German cities.
In support of our treasured partner organisation and in support of its ability to continue its significant work, we respectfully ask for:
1) the invalidation of the Ukrainian State Film Agency's order to No. 100 of 5 August 2022 about the reorganization of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre
2) the necessary steps to be taken, which introduce mechanisms ensuring the legal status of the Oleksandre Dovzhenko National Centre as the Ukrainian State's official film archive.
