Frame by Frame – Restoring Films
28.10.21 – 4.7.22
Exhibition
Film restoration takes place out of sight, in the workshops of film archives and in the darkrooms of film labs. Our exhibition brings this craft to light and shows how we preserve not just well-known but also forgotten works of film history and return them to the silver screen – protecting the film material and keeping stories and memories alive for future generations. Five sections shed light on the entire process of film restoration: from the worldwide search for film material and the reconstruction of early sound to the determination of colour and light in Technicolor films. Experience how these fragments are joined up to make films whole again.
The exhibition “Frame by Frame – Restoring Films” is funded by the Governing Mayor of Berlin – Senate Chancellery and the Wüstenrot Foundation.
