Finissage: Elitist or popular? The Bauhaus and the film
Back to the calendarThe Bauhaus used film early on to document and propagate its New Building. In the 1920s, Bauhaus furniture found its way into feature film as props, where it served less as furniture for the broad masses than as status symbol for artists and intellectuals. Since then, the Bauhaus style in film has mostly served as a cipher for cool power structures. We'll examine this multi-layered liaison on the basis of film examples.
