A murdered girl is found in Graubünden. The crime attracts attention because two earlier, similar murder cases remain cold after two years. Destitute peddler Jacquier is the prime suspect, although he’s the one who alarmed the police. Inspector Matthäi is sure Jacquier is innocent–but it’s too late: the peddler hangs himself in his cell. Matthäi recalls a drawing by the murdered child that had small spiky balls, a tall man, and a car on it. The inspector rents a gas station under cover and takes in young Ms. Heller, along with her young daughter Annamarie. The little girl is bait. And sure enough, one day a tall stranger comes up to Annamarie.
