Back to the calendar‘Pojat’, FI 1962, D: Mikko Niskanen, 104 min
‘Pojat’ tells the story of five boys and how the war affects them all differently. The film is set in the northern Finnish city of Oulu, where a number of German troops were positioned during the Second World War. At first, the Germans are received as heroes and the boys’ admiration towards them is unconditional but gradually their illusions about the war and its circumstances collapse. The principal character, Jake, reacts most dramatically to the losses he has to endure during the film’s emotional climax.
In-house restoration from original image and sound negatives. Scanned in 4K with DFT Scanity. The image was digitally restored in DV Phoenix in semi-automatic methods. Colour grading was conducted in Resolve using original elements as reference. Extended night scenes shot in daylight were carefully reviewed.
