The life of the oldest amusement park in the world is re- flected in the development of technology and media – kaleido- scopically visualized and set to texts by well-known writers. Amid a world of illusion, from the Ferris wheel to modern rides that launch visitors from an ejection seat, there are moments of intimacy. While young men test their strength, a dancing woman forgets everything around her. The history of Vienna’s Prater theme park and Ottinger’s work have something in common – the world becomes a stage and the stage the world.
The film was shot in a combination of 35mm and high-def, edited digitally and then transferred to 35mm. The restoration was done from the original 35mm camera negative and the color-corrected HD master, which was used for the final sound mix. The restoration was funded by the film heritage subsidy program FFE, and done at Media Services in Berlin and Munich, working closely with Ulrike Ottinger.
