In the Polish countryside in the 1980s, the brothers Jędrek und Grześ live in poverty, and see no hope for a future. Their father has lost his job as a history teacher due to his involvement with the Solidarity movement and is subject to constant harassment by the communist authorities. His sons decide to flee to the West, where they hope to fulfill their dreams of a better life.
