For Women – Chapter 1

Für Frauen, 1. Kapitel, FRG 1972, directed by Cristina Perincioli, 29 min, English subtitles, rated: 6

Unequal pay for equal work, lewd remarks from male colleagues and little chance of promotion: four female supermarket cashiers have had enough of daily discrimination in the workplace. But no revolution is ever won by a single person. When all four women show solidarity and go on strike, things begin to change. Together with housewives and saleswomen, director Cristina Perincioli shot and developed the story of her graduation film at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB). In it, she explores the possibility of shifting power relations in the workplace in an entertaining way.
