A Lola for Regina Ziegler – Films for the Cinema, Television and Theater

After the German television station ZDF vetoed its subject matter, Regina Ziegler defiantly produced her first film on credit. Ich dachte, ich wäre tot (FRG, 1973), by Wolf Gremm, became a surprising success at the box office and was awarded the Bundesfilmpreis (now the Deutscher Filmpreis/German Film Award). Regina Ziegler’s film production in Berlin quickly became a good address for the New German Cinema. Ziegler has produced approximately 500 films for movie theaters and television to date. This year the Deutsche Filmakademie (German Film Academy) is honoring her with the special award of the Deutscher Filmpreis for her life’s work. To mark the ocassion the Mediathek (Media Library) is now presenting more than forty of Ziegler’s films.

Six stations show multiple awardwinning feature films, including Heinrich (FRG, 1977) and  Korczak (PL/FRG, 1990) and television series, such as the ARD series Weissensee (G, since 2010). However, attention is also drawn to lesser-known and documentary works by Marcel Ophüls and Helga Reidemeister. Theater films by Peter Stein, Hans Neuenfels, Luc Bondy and Jean-Marie Straub are also included.
