Visitor and house rules for the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek — Museum für Film und Fernsehen
Visitor and house rules
Welcome to the Deutsche Kinemathek! We wish you a pleasant visit here at our institute. At the beginning of your visit, we would like to familiarise you with our visitor and house rules and to thank you for complying with them:
1. Opening times, tickets and fees
All the latest information on opening hours, tickets and fees can be found at deutsche-kinemathek.de. In future, tickets can be purchased online at deutsche-kinemathek.de/tickets.
Admission prices and opening hours are set by the Stiftung Deutsche Kinemathek. We reserve the right to make special regulations.
Tickets for the Berlin International Film Festival (Retrospective, Classics) can be purchased at berlinale.de.
2. Access
The Deutsche Kinemathek should be accessible to all people. We take the right to cultural participation seriously and are working constantly on making our visits to the E-Werk as barrier-free as possible. This includes ensuring that all visitors can move freely and independently through the public area of the building.
However, we would like to point out that not all areas are fully accessible due to structural conditions and, in particular, because the building is under a preservation order. Should you need specific information or assistance, we will be happy to help. Please contact the staff member responsible in advance (info [at] deutsche-kinemathek.de (info[at]deutsche-kinemathek[dot]de)) to discuss your needs.
The barrier-free entrance to the main building is located next to the Wartengebäude entrance in the foyer through the large gate (building F). It is possible to reach it with an accompanying person. Assistance and guide dogs for the blind are allowed in our public areas.
If you have any questions or complaints while on site, please contact the supervisory staff on the premises or the employees at the foyer desk.
3. Cloakroom
When visiting our premises, sharp-edged objects and larger bags must be deposited in the lockers provided for this purpose, although space is limited.
In case of doubt, our visitor service will decide. Storage is free of charge. No liability can be assumed for valuables.
The locker system is regularly checked; after the building is closed to the public every day, stored objects are removed from the lockers and handed over to the lost property office in the Mitte district after two weeks. Overnight use is excluded.
4. Conduct in the building (exhibition hall, ticket hall, library, archives)
All visitors are asked to be particularly careful and considerate in the areas of the main hall on the ground floor, in the Schalterhalle on the 2nd floor, as well as in the library, reading rooms and archives.
This includes treating other visitors with respect as well as use of mobile phones. Photography, audio and video recordings in the building are only permitted for private use.
Teachers, group leaders and other legal guardians are responsible for ensuring that all members of the visiting group are considerate and behave in a way that is appropriate to the surroundings. Please refrain from any activity that impairs security and order in the building and the immediate outdoor area. Individuals are liable for any damage caused by their conduct.
In the event of overcrowding or due to special reasons, the building or respective areas may be blocked completely or partially.
Animals — except for assistance and guide dogs for the blind — may not be brought into the building. The use of skateboards, inline skates, pedal and city scooters, bicycles, etc. is not permitted.
5. General safety precautions
At Deutsche Kinemathek events where drinks or food are sold, and as part of Deutsche Kinemathek educational programmes, drinks and food may be eaten in restricted areas with prior arrangement and approval. Please dispose of waste and empties in the containers provided for this purpose. Please ensure that the Deutsche Kinemathek is kept clean.
In the event that items etc. are exhibited, it is not permitted to use objects near these displayed items which are likely to cause damage to the museum objects. If there are reasonable suspicions, the supervisory staff is entitled to carry out a bag check on visitors.
Bringing or carrying weapons and pyrotechnics is strictly prohibited.
6. No smoking
Smoking is prohibited throughout the building. Open fires are prohibited.
7. Using the library and archives
There are separate rules of use for the library on the 2nd floor and the archives on the 3rd floor that are displayed on signs.
8. Supervisory and visitor services
The instructions of the visitor service must be followed in full. If the instructions are not followed, continued access in the entire building or individual parts of the building may be prohibited by exercising house rights.
9. Camera surveillance
The doors to the cinema library are monitored with security cameras. The data protection guidelines can be viewed by all visitors at the counter in the foyer using a QR code on display there.
10. Display of advertising material
The display of third-party advertising material is not permitted.
11. Found objects
If objects are found in the building, please drop them off at the counter in the foyer on the ground floor.
12. Evacuation plans & routes and liability
Evacuation routes and pictograms are displayed on every floor. In the event of a fire, please follow the indicated routes and the instructions of the staff in charge.
The meeting point is located at Bethlehemkirchplatz, opposite the entrance to Mauerstraße 79.
The Deutsche Kinemathek assumes no liability for property and personal damage or for damage caused by breaking into lockers or theft. Visitors are liable for any damage they cause. The obligation to reimburse costs applies in particular when damage is caused intentionally or through gross negligence. Visitors are responsible for their own insurance coverage.
Defects or damage must be reported to the information desk.
13. Toilets
The publicly accessible toilets are located at the back of the main hall on the ground floor to the left.
14. Applicable to all visitors
The visitor and house rules can be viewed at the information desk and are published on the website at deutsche-kinemathek.de. They can be viewed via a QR code at the desk in the foyer. By visiting our house, visitors acknowledge the regulations and all other rules that ensure the safe operation of the building as binding.
Thank you for your understanding — we hope you enjoy your visit!
