With her eyes and ears wide open, the young historian Elisabeth travels to Lyon to roam the city and view it as a backdrop of events. She hopes to reconstruct the sensual reality of the life of Flora Tristan, a 19th century socialist and feminist. Using a cassette recorder, Elisabeth rediscovers the layers of history in sounds and noises, faces and façades. A history professor wants to steer her back onto the path of science, but she manages to break free from academic rigidity. And while searching for that lost era, Elisabeth also discovers the modern-day city of Lyon and her place in the present. The DVD includes a German and a French version of Claudia von Alemann’s newly restored film classic and an accompanying multilingual booklet.
